Necklace - silver, brass gear, steel
As an avid fan of Dionysos and particularly their latest album La Mécanique du Coeur I just... had to. The idea was born ages ago, and gradually fine-tuned as the album dominated my audio landscape. Here you have it - a mechanical heart you can wear around your neck, and wind up whenever you feel like you're beginning to trail behind as the world speeds by. The pierced pattern is the same on both sides, and you can see the gear mechanism inside. The pattern, by the way, is a section from the decorative support beams of Liverpool Street Station in London - utterly Victorian. The shape of the key is of the same origin. The two halves were riveted together and they also keep the gear in place. When you turn the key the gear mechanism makes a very pleasant click-click-click sound, which is what I was originally aiming for. The thing is, the axis of the gear mechanism is of a very soft iron, and the key itself hides a core of steel which fits the axis hub. You can probably see how the key has damaged the hub slightly, and will continue to do so every time it's turned. I need to figure out a way to work around this so that I can make a fully functional version - this one is a mere prototype at best. It's still pretty, I think. |

This is exactly the type of inspired, amusing jewelry that is fun to wear. I'd buy this in a second.

(for some reason I can't stop saying " a CORE of STEEL" in a melodramatic voice ... there's something wrong with me... )

But yeah, kudos to you dude, love the design. All it needs now is a spring mechanism so the cog unwinds....
