Silver.

A commission piece for a customer with whom I clicked instantly. It's a spiral ring, starting with a rough, scratched, chipped-looking base and ending in a smooth polished claw tip - kind of difficult to figure out in this photo maybe, it was a bastard to shoot.

I enjoyed making this piece immensely. It felt like tapping into some primitive energy source. And finally I could put my knowledge of archaeological archive drawings to good use - most of the scratches, chips and grooves imitate the way granite and quartz chips.

Wow, great ring. you certainly achieved the effect you were looking for. the photo shows it off really well with the background colours you have chosen.
:icondeaddamien:
Oh, thank you! I was kind of worried about the photo.

What process did you use?

The whole ring was formed from a sheet of silver, the standard 2mm thick supplier variety. I hammered it into the spiral shape, then used my saw and files to smooth it out and add detail, and the final grooves, chips and scratches were done with a micro motor and various sharp tools that happened to be lying around.

Okay, I wasn't sure if this was pmc.

I get that a lot. I've never even seen the stuff live myself.

I think that pmc will have a place in metals eventually, but as of right now I see it as an easy way out. Sort skipping the foundations.

And I think it's good that you can create something that looks like you used another material.

Okay, the very fact that you know how quartz and granite chip makes this amazing enough.
Factor in the killer (no pun intended) claw and style that this is sporting and, well, you've got yourself one helluva ring :)
I like that it looks kind of like flames.

You'd be all too familiar with quartz chip marks too if you had spent two summers in a freezing basement drawing detailed archive illustrations of stone age tools. At times I was certain I was about to go mad. And yet it was strangely fascinating.

/memory-lane rant

Thank you - you're right, there's something distinctly flame-like in the ring. I guess that's appropriate too, as the customer is a bit of a biker. XD
